Initially based in Kyiv and then relocating to Odessa. The incumbent should be ready for duty trips to various parts of Ukraine.

Start of assignment

The estimated commencement of duties is Mid-October 2017.

Your tasks and responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Country Programme Manager, the Project Officer will play an important role in building up and implementing the activities of forumZFD’s programme office in Odessa. The incumbent will be responsible for the strategic planning, implementation and administration of forumZFD projects in Odessa. In particular, this will include substantive and financial project drafting, planning and reporting, co-ordination of implementing partners' activities, research, translations, contribution to the development of project publications and training activities, establishing collaborative relations with partners, and other tasks as defined by the Country Programme Manager.

Specific tasks include:

  • Manage projects through all steps of the project cycle. This will include the identification and design of projects, the preparation of project proposals and pertinent budgets, as well as the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of projects and activities of forumZFD Ukraine.
  • Draft project proposals in cooperation with forumZFD programme office in Ukraine and the head office in Cologne, as well as with partner organizations.
  • Advise and cooperate with partner organizations in the process of project implementation.
  • Facilitate the communication and exchanges between forumZFD programme office Ukraine and partners, local authorities, local civil society and other relevant stakeholders in Ukraine.
  • Contribute actively to the building of contacts and partnership network of forumZFD programme office in Ukraine.
  • Draft official letters, meeting minutes and reports related to the forumZFD project activities in Ukraine.
  • Prepare visibility materials such as newsletters, social media posts, brochures and other promotional publications.
  • Organize and manage events such as seminars, round-tables, workshops, training sessions, study and project visits and conferences.
  • Research and analyze situations of actual or potential conflicts at local level, map conflict actors and develop ideas and actions plans to address the issues identified.
  • Provide translation of written text and consecutive interpretation from Ukrainian/Russian to English and vice-versa.Perform any other tasks as assigned by the Country Programme Manager.

Your profile

·         Advanced university degree in political science, international relations, sociology, anthropology, law or other related fields.

·         A minimum of 5 years of working experience, preferably with international organizations, in the fields of conflict transformation, human rights, civil society, good governance, intercultural dialogue or a related field.  Solid understanding of the complexities of Ukraine's transition process, political constellation and sources of conflict at local level, and key challenges to address them.

·         Solid experience in project cycle management, including monitoring and evaluation, particularly with international donor-funded projects.

·         Experience in the conceptualization and implementation of capacity development activities and training.

·         Demonstrated experience in organizing conferences/ events.

·         Full professional fluency in English and strong verbal communication skills in Ukrainian/Russian.

·         Committed to peace and strong interest to contribute to addressing current challenges experienced by Ukrainian communities at local level.

·         Excellent research, analysis and drafting skills.

·         Computer and Internet proficiency.

·         Strong intercultural sensitivity and ability to work in a team, and under time pressure.

·         Self-motivation, initiative and ability to work autonomously.

·         Ability to multitask and coordinate several projects simultaneously.

·         Willingness to travel frequently throughout Ukraine.

·         Driving licence and driving experience.

forumZFD supports people involved in violent conflicts on the path to peace and strives to help overcome war and violence. forumZFD is currently working with peace consultants in Germany as well as ten other countries in Europe, the Middle East and South East Asia. Its Academy for Conflict Transformation offers a learning space for professionals engaged internationally in peace work. Through dialogue events, educational work and campaigns, forumZFD actively advocates for civil peace policy.

forumZFD is recognized by the German federal government as a member of the Civil Peace Service (CPS) consortium. It finances its work through public and private grants, donations and membership fees.Currently, forumZFD is in the process of building up its programme in Ukraine by establishing programme offices in Kyiv and Odessa. In Ukraine, forumZFD will work with Ukrainian partners in the fields of civil conflict transformation, peace building and social cohesion.
