The National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) is a non-profit organization working to strengthen democracy worldwide. NDI programs are supported by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), UK, Sweden, Canada, the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and other donors. NDI and its partners have been working in Ukraine since 1992.
Position Summary: The National Democratic Institute (NDI) seeks a Communications and Reporting Officer to communicate and amplify programmatic efforts of the Institute in Ukraine. Working closely with internal teams and external media contacts, you will craft media content, manage media relations, and ensure that our communication strategy aligns with the organization’s goals and values. This position offers an opportunity to make a tangible impact on the promotion of democracy, and we are seeking individuals to join our dynamic team. This position also requires a high degree of discretion and strong organizational skills. Fluency in English is required.
Job Responsibilities:
• Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive communications strategy in collaboration with other stakeholders to establish and grow NDI’s social media and traditional media presence.
• Build and maintain relationships with journalists and media outlets
• Coordinate and enhance media presence for NDI’s events and provide support for partner events when needed, ensuring effective messaging and representation.
• Collaborate with the field program teams to extract highlights from reports for external communication, including success stories and significant accomplishments.
• Work with the field M&E team to ensure result-oriented reporting is present in the communication materials and reports prepared by NDI Ukraine.
• Create engaging content such as blog posts, press releases, success stories, and multimedia materials, ensuring alignment with NDI’s media standards.
• Serve as a primary contact person for NDI program teams and vendors and take the lead in producing content including but not limited to video scripts, infographics, tool kits, resource guides, tip sheets, frameworks, digital content, etc.
• Monitor and evaluate the impact of NDI’s communications, continually refining strategies for increased engagement.
• Contribute to and coordinate the development of weekly and monthly updates for donors and stakeholders, providing clear and concise summaries of events and activities.
Qualifications/Requirements:
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in communication, public relations, journalism, or other relevant disciplines.
• 2-4 years of experience in communications or public relations, focusing on social media and traditional media presence development.
• Demonstrated ability to lead the development process of a communication strategy, involving stakeholders as necessary.
• Strong experience with social media tools, multimedia content development, and familiarity with design tools (Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.).
• Experience in coordinating media presence for organizational events and supporting partner events as needed.
• Experience in reviewing reports for consistency and alignment with communication objectives, and providing input on result-oriented reporting.
• Proficiency in written and verbal communication in Ukrainian and English.
• Strong organizational, multi-tasking, interpersonal, and teamworking skills.
• Ability to work under deadline pressure and collaborate with diverse teams across multiple geographic areas, and adhere to organizational policies.
• Experience with developing, designing and/or delivering educational or training programs.
• Demonstrated success working in a team environment
• Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office Programs, Google suite)
