Security & Logistics Officer - Kyiv

Position Summary:

Internews is seeking a full-time Security & Logistics Officer for its office in Kyiv, Ukraine. The officer will report directly to Internews’ Chief of Party, Ukraine working with and through instruction from Internews’ Global Security & Operations team (US based). This role is responsible for security activities and well-being of staff and visitors working and operating in the Ukraine office.

Functions and Responsibilities:

The Security & Logistics Officer will work closely with the Chief of Party - Ukraine, US-Based Security & Operations team, and security consultant support to perform the following tasks the following tasks:

 

Security Management:

• Receive training and onboarding from Internews’ Security Consultant on procedures and security best practices in Ukraine.

• Monitor the security environment of Ukraine and bordering countries and provide security updates and advisories as key incidents or events occur.

• Provide a weekly security report & country overview to the Internews Senior Ukraine team and HQ security team.

• Maintain and regularly update the SOPs and Security Recommendations assessments to ensure Internews facilities are in line with best practices

• Interface with the wider security community within Ukraine to maintain strong security networks and information access

• Oversee national travel of Internews staff, visitors, and consultants by checking in daily with any travelers (domestic and international)

• Ensuring the arrival information, security briefings, and information packages for all incoming staff and visitors (domestics and international)

• Keep Internews’ Manifest documentation for Ukraine staff (local and relocatable) fully updated

• Manage Internews’ Security Whatsapp group, pushing security updates to staff as needed.

 

Logistics Support:

• Compile weekly movement plan based on staff-reported travel and implementing Internews’ Journey Management Protocols (domestic and international).

• Assist with travel logistics for both staff traveling to Ukraine, including arranging hotel reservations and providing entry / pre-travel security briefings.

• Coordinate check-in schedules with expat staff and visitors.

• Issue and maintain mobile devices / SIMs to STTA staff as needed.

• Serve as Internews’ POC for all testing and maintenance of satellite phones.

• Ensure that vehicles rented to Internews are serviced, documented, fit for service and that drivers are managed.

• Establish vehicle movement schedules and check that vehicle log books (where applicable and when vehicles are leased) are in place and are used correctly.

• Ensure that a complete vehicle breakdown kit and first aid kits are available on board all vehicles.

 

Emergency Preparedness & Support:

• In event of an emergency, Officer will a primary point contact in coordinating security measures in coordination with Internews Ukraine leadership team and Internews HQ Security & Operations team.

• Conduct security drills for air raid alerts, fire, and other emergencies for Internews’ staff on a routine basis.

• Manage and maintain Internews’ emergency equipment (hibernation supplies, first aid kits, PPE, communications equipment, etc.).

• Initiate staff check ins when situation warrants and escalate security related matters to HQ security as needed.

 

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

• Minimum of 4 years’ experience in security and logistics management

• Capability to train on and implement security best practices for operating in an active conflict zone;

• Demonstrated capability for time management, organization and prioritization;

• Ability to communicate and foster collaboration with colleagues, partners and external agencies;

• Ability to use judgment regarding the safety of personnel, analyze and understand complex situations, and translate this into specific policy advice;

• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others at all levels;

• Independence, an ability to take the initiative and a sense of responsibility.

• Fluency in English and Ukrainian essential
