Danish Refugee Council is an international non-governmental organization, which promotes and supports durable solutions to the problems faced by refugees and internally displaced people all over the world.

Given the current situation in the country, the Danish Refugee Council is looking for a Protection Assistant (Graphic Design).

Overall purpose of the role

The Protection Assistant (Graphic Design) is responsible for providing technical and day-to-day support for implementing the awareness raising activities by creating graphic designing of various informational materials, infographics, comics and cartoons, etc.

Sector responsibilities: The Protection Assistant (Graphic Design) contributes towards creating best design solutions for various types of information materials relevant to the project. The Protection Assistant (Graphic Design) the Legal Assistance Unit (LAU) focal person responsible to comply with DRC communication- and visibility-related procedures and guidelines. 

Geographic scope:  remotely or Lviv, Uzhhorod, Ivano-Frankivsk, with an office based in Lviv

This role has a regional focus. The role provides support and/or technical guidance on processes related to various information materials design. This role does not require travel or stationary presence in field office location(s). 

Main responsibilities

Programming & Operations
 

• In constant cooperation with the LAU team (including other relevant parties) provide technical graphic support in all the stages of preparing of awareness raising and advocacy-related materials (e.g. printed materials, social media posts, infographics, comics and cartoons, etc.);
• In consultation with project managers, officers, and lawyers, establish best graphic design solutions; 
• In cooperation with relevant project staff, create sketches and frames relevant for the project information products;
• Support best data visualization templates;
• Any other functions related to graphic design to be assigned by the Protection Project Lead, Small Grants and Legal Aid Project Manager in consultation with the position holder;
• Comply with all relevant DRC policies and procedures;
• Liaise with DRC Communication department;
• Understand, and ensure the observance of the DRC Code of Conduct. 

Coordination and representation

• Shape visual aspects of advocacy-related products; 
• Support visualizing and creating graphics for project awareness raising materials;
• Cooperate with and act as the LAU focal person for liaising with DRC Communication team

Contract duration: 3 months (with possibility to extend based on available funding).

Required experience and competencies

• At least 1-year experience in similar job
• Ability to work in Adobe photoshop / Adobе Illustrator / Procreate
• Knowledge of the basics of composition and color
• Ability to draw by hand
• Ability to work in After Effects would be a plus
• Experience in creating characters (in a cartoon or caricature style)
• Good communication skills;
• Fluency in Russian and Ukrainian
• Working knowledge of English would be of advantage  

Required education

Diploma in graphic design or similar. A high school diploma with relevant experience and skills will be sufficient as well.
