About Momentum Wheels for Humanity

Since 1996, Momentum Wheels for Humanity has increased access to mobility and improved quality of life for children, teens, and adults with physical disabilities in more than 50 low- and middle-income countries. We build and strengthen rehabilitation services within health systems through training and capacity building, policy and standards development, and supply and distribution of wheelchairs and other life-changing equipment.

Position Summary

In support of the anticipated USAID-funded Strengthening Rehab Services and Health Systems (SRSHS) project, MWH seeks a Ukraine-based GIS Consultant for updating and maintaining the SRSHS Rehabilitation and Assistive Technology Services Map on OpenStreetMap (OSM). The primary objectives will be to (i) compile and review data inputs for the map; (ii) clean and prepare the data to integrate into the map; (iii) update the map; (iv) manage the tracking of the map; and (v) improve Service Map.

About the Strengthening Rehab Services and Health Systems Project

Led by Momentum Wheels for Humanity (MWH) and supported by the Ukrainian Association of Physical Therapy (UAPT), the Ukrainian National Association for People with Disabilities (NAPD), the World Physiotherapy (WP) and the Republican Medical College of Tajikistan (RMC), the USAID-funded Strengthening Rehabilitation Services in Health Systems (SRSHS) project seeks to strengthen rehab service delivery systems in Tajikistan and Ukraine by contributing to the development of policy and regulatory frameworks that are rooted in practical, local hospital-tested experiences; supporting physical therapy (PT) professionalization; and raising awareness of the relevance of rehab services to quality of life. Ultimately, the SRSHS project will strengthen the skills of rehab providers in the two countries, reach individuals and medical professionals with awareness-raising activities, and increase demand for rehab services.

Expected Duties and Responsibilities  

The SRSHS Project GIS Consultant will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Compile and review new data inputs for the map, ensuring that all data are correctly inputted and formatted
  • Review and audit existing data inputted into the map
  • Migrate existing map data into Open Street Map database
  • Clean, prepare, and integrate new data for map updates appropriately for Open Street Map
  • Maintain and support the updating process of the map
  • Streamline and improve the data collection, cleaning, and preparation process for the map data
  • Streamline map updating, management, and maintenance process of the Service Map
  • Improve filter functionality to streamline searches for needed services by end users as needed via additional filters or keywords

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience with GIS
  • BA degree on geography, Geographic Information Systems, or relevant field such as international relations or urban planning, etc.
  • Experience with editing and updating spatial data/features in QGIS (ArcGIS is acceptable, but you will have to use your own pro license) and Open Street Map required
  • Knowledge of SQL (preferably open source like PostgreSQL or MySQL), HTML5, and JavaScript required
  • Experience with leaflet library required
  • Experience with open source data GIS software and solutions preferred
  • Experience with GeoServer or alternative software preferred
  • Ability to oversee data collection, management, and reporting with integrity
  • Ability to set clear goals and manage progress toward them
  • Must be able to work well independently and with the team
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required
  • Detail-oriented with good organization and prioritization skills
  • Must be able to explain technical procedures in laymen terms
  • Fluency in Ukrainian and English required
