POSITION SUMMARY:
The Psychosocial Trainer, under the supervision of the Deputy Center Manager will be hired to prepare and deliver regionally contextualized safety trainings and workshops to journalists and other media practitioners.
The position is open to all qualified applicants.
General Duties & Responsibilities
- Ensure integrated approach to trainings and training activities (i.e., standard operating procedures and risk-mitigation strategies) through working closely with other program trainers, as well as other program staff.
- Create and contextualize psychosocial safety lessons and methodology to suit participants’ needs and ensure integrated approach in training materials.
- Deliver trainings in psychosocial safety including risk management, stress management, basic psychosocial planning, incident management, and information management and communication reflecting an integrated safety framework, or any further updates agreed with the Deputy and technical team.
- Support development and updating of M&E tools that take into account local context and beneficiary profile.
- Work with the Deputy Center manager and technical team to develop and update training curriculum as needed.
- Coordinate with the Deputy Center Manager on needs assessment and risk assessment work prior to trainings on an as needed basis.
- Coordinate with the Deputy Center Manager on risk-mitigation strategies and trainee follow-up on an as needed basis.
- Report on activities as required by Deputy Center Manager.
- May be responsible for supporting the program’s gender and social inclusion initiative.
- Participate in skills share with team and peers.
- Participate in meetings and/or calls with staff; and
- Other duties as assigned by the Deputy Center Manager, Center Manager and Program Director.
Skills and Experience
- Sound knowledge in psychological interventions, usually demonstrated by a Masters, PsyD, or PhD in Psychology, other relevant academic degree, or qualifications that the employer considers to be equivalent.
- Experience conducting trainings, specifically training individuals in psychosocial care and safety.
- Experience in designing trainings and developing and tailoring curricula, training content and methodology.
- Demonstrated understanding of adult learning techniques; knowledge and use of interactive methods in training.
- Experience conducting trainings on creating security and/or emergency protocols is and asset.
- In-depth knowledge of journalism sector as well as operating environment and media landscape in Eurasia region.
- Substantial experience working in high-risk environments or emergency situations preferred.
- Must be open to learning and adapting training material for a holistic approach combining psychosocial, physical, digital curricula and risk management as well as piloting new adult learning techniques.
- Ability to communicate professionally and provide written reporting in English and Russian. Knowledge of Ukrainian preferred.
- Excellent cross-cultural communication, and interpersonal skills; and
- Experience of working constructively as part of a small team.
Physical Demands:
- Tasks involve some physical effort, i.e. some standing and walking, or frequent light lifting (2.5-5 kg.); or minimal dexterity in the use of fingers, limbs, or body in the operation of office equipment. Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard.
- Extended period of sitting at a workstation or desk. Manual dexterity to work efficiently on a computer keyboard.

- Oral communications ability.
