IFES is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Civic Education Strategic Consulting who will be working closely in coordination with IFES Ukraine and provide services within its Civic Education component and university-level Democracy: from Theory to Practice course implementation.
Since 1994, the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) has played a key role in the emergence and modernization of democratic electoral processes and institutions in Ukraine. During this period, IFES has developed a reputation as a reliable source for impartial analysis and high-quality technical assistance in the fields of electoral and political finance reform, social inclusion and gender equality, election administration, civil society capacity building, civic education, and public opinion research.
Key directions of IFES programming in Ukraine include: defending Ukraine from cybersecurity vulnerabilities and threats in and around the electoral process; training electoral management bodies based on international standards and good practice; supporting civil society, academia and strengthening civic engagement; fostering dialogue on electoral and political finance reform; enhancing inclusion in the electoral process for underrepresented populations; strengthening key electoral and politically-exposed institutions.
Period of Performance: January 8, 2020 – December 30, 2020
Level of effort: up to 180 days per year
Main duties and job responsibilities:
a) Development and implementation of Trainer Development Program
b) Identifying Civic Education trainers’ needs in trainings/re-trainings and providing ongoing support to trainers
c) Planning and ensuring Trainings of Trainers (development of curriculum, training materials, identifying experts and facilitators), leading trainings and conducting training sessions
d) Identifying university teachers’ needs in trainings/re-trainings and providing ongoing support to teachers
e) Planning and ensuring teachers’ training and retraining (development of curriculum, training materials, identifying experts and facilitators), leading trainings and conducting training sessions for teachers with different level of Civic Education experience
f) Planning and organizing capacity building events, lessons learned events and networking of trainers and teachers
g) Visiting universities, monitoring of teachers’ performance in universities, preparing and updating FAQ-sheets and recommendations for teachers and IFES
h) Interviewing teachers and conducting focus groups with students
i) Participation in meetings with universities, partners, government institutions, etc
j) Advising IFES on new opportunities for Civic Education program expansion
k) Participation in development and implementation of sustainability strategy for the Civic Education component
l) Advising IFES international offices in launching Civic Education programs based on their requests
Education and qualifications:
- Master’s degree or higher in a relevant field;
- A superior understanding of civic education and its developments in Ukraine;
- Expertise and experience in developing curriculum and materials for university-level courses;
- Previous experiences in establishing and maintaining relations with universities;
- Organizing and conducting civic education trainings for university teachers and students;
- Experience in developing project monitoring and evaluation instruments;
- Excellent English and Ukrainian-language written and oral communication skills.
- Experience in working with public authorities, national and international organizations;
