Job Title: Ukraine Programme Specialist Organisation: The Centre for Sustainable Peace and Democratic Development (SeeD)

Contract duration: 1st October – 31st December 2019 (subject to extension following the trial period)

Contract status: Full-time (40 hours per week)

Salary range: 1200 - 1600 EUR

General Summary: SeeD is a research-driven innovative think tank, generating evidence to inform programmes and policies around the world. Together with local partners, we help identify root causes of conflict and drivers of positive change towards more cohesive and prosperious societies. Since our establishment in 2012, our efforts have reached Ukraine, Moldova, Cyprus, Liberia, Bosnia, Malaysia, Nepal, Armenia, Iraq, and beyond.

Our presence in Ukraine dates back to 2015. Since then we have conducted multiple waves of SCORE processes on the national and regional level, with a specific focus on the eastern oblasts. Our main partners in Ukraine are UNICEF, UNDP, USAID and Chemonics International. Together we have investigated a wide range of public perceptions and narratives about different societal issues such as support and skepticism towards reforms, political orientations and preferences, civic attitudes, intergroup harmony, migration tendencies, life skills and adolescent development. The main departure point of our research is to better understand the drivers and impact of the conflict on the socio-political ecology of Ukraine in order to scientifically identify the most impactful pathways to build social cohesion, prosperity and security. Our research is directly anchored in and inform policy making and programming of the key stakeholders and partners in Ukraine.

Ukraine Programme Specialist will join SeeD’s Ukraine team in Kyiv and will support implementation of the Social Cohesion and Reconciliation Index (SCORE) in partnership with USAID and UNDP, and the UNICEF Adolescent Study. Main responsibilities will include research design and data interpretation (e.g. literature reviews, questionnaire design, content analysis), production of analytical products as per stakeholder needs (e.g. policy briefs, presentations, infographics), communication of research findings to a wide range of stakeholders and organisation of outreach activities (e.g. workshops, public lectures).

We communicate our findings to a wide range of stakeholders, such as Ministries, NGO’s, top media outlets, collaborate with other think tanks, organize discussions with wider audiences across the country. We are looking for a team member who is value-driven and creative, interested in evidence-based approaches to addressing societal challenges, and passionate about building a pluralistic, democratic and cohesive Ukraine. The ideal candidate would be someone who can translate academic research into specific policies and interventions and understands the value of both, can communicate complex findings to various audiences and does not shy away from public speaking. They should be able to manage and prioritize multiple processes simultaneously, bring in their own expertise and contribute to the innovative multidisciplinary research framework SeeD constantly works to improve.
