About USAID/BRAMA Activity

Pact has been working to develop civil society in Belarus since 2005. In the past, Pact supported civil society, independent trade unions and media outlets in order to foster stronger civic institutions and effectively inform citizens to advocate for positive social change.

The Future Search workshop will be organized under the USAID/BRAMA Activity implemented by Pact. The Belarus Reforms And Media Assistance activity (BRAMA) aims at building civic engagement, positive social change and the availability and influence of objective information on the local and national levels. Pact supports at-home civil society organizations – from grassroots activists to policy groups and think tanks.

About Future Search

Pact has been utilizing Future Search methodology to help identify its strategic priorities regarding the development of Belarusian civil society. To date, Pact organized three inclusive Future Search workshops in 2006, 2011 and 2015 gathering representatives of various Belarusian civil society sectors to identify trends, needs and priorities for civil society development in Belarus. The Future Search reports are widely shared and available here.

In 2019, Pact is convening the 4th Belarus Future Search meeting to generate a co-created and locally owned vision of a new Belarus where civil society, understood broadly, that is capable of comprehending and adapting to exigencies and shaping the future of the country.

Expected Responsibilities

A moderator (a team of moderators) will be responsible for:

• Drafting a conceptual model and agenda for the Belarus Future Search meeting, including using materials of Pact’s past Future Search reports – at least 20 days in advance of the workshop;
• Holding at least two meetings with Pact staff to discuss the Future Search conceptual model, agenda and results;
• Preparing handouts for the participants – at least five days in advance of the workshop;
• 2,5 day-facilitation of the Future Search workshop for roughly 40 Belarusian civil society leaders and stakeholders;
• Drafting of a written analytical report based on the results of the Future Search workshop – by September 30.

Required Qualifications

• At least 5 years of experience facilitating and conducting cross-sectoral group meetings;
• Professional fluency in written and spoken Russian;
• Strong analytical, writing and problem-solving skills;
• Proven interpersonal skills and ability to establish effective and constructive relationships with people of different cultural backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with the Future Search methodology;
• Understanding the Belarusian socio-political and civil society context;
• Civil society experience in a wider Eastern Partnership/Central and East European region.
