Organisation Background

Founded in 2011, the International NGO Safety Organisation (INSO) is a British charity that supports the safety of aid workers by establishing safety coordination platforms in insecure contexts. INSO provides registered NGOs with a range of free services including real-time incident tracking, analytical reports, safety related data and mapping, crisis management support, staff orientations and training.

INSO services help NGOs with their day-to-day risk management responsibilities and improve their overall situational awareness to support evidence-based humanitarian access decisions.

The Organisation has grown from an innovative start-up to become a globally recognised charity and a valuable component of the humanitarian safety coordination system.

Today the Organisation provides daily support to more than 850 NGOs in twelve of the world’s most insecure countries and has earned a strong reputation for performance, principles & professionalism.

INSO Monitoring

INSO Monitoring supports humanitarian preparedness and response in Medium Risk contexts.

While operating with the same rigorous quality standards of a regular INSO mission, INSO Monitoring offers its partners the following services:

  1. Alerts on conflict and access incidents affecting the humanitarian community.
  2. Monitoring of incident data.
  3. Monthly briefings to partners.

As with all INSO services, INSO Monitoring is only available to non-profit humanitarian & development NGOs (local and international) working to assist the people of Ukraine.

 We are now looking for an Intern to join country team. The post is to be based at our country office in Kyiv, Ukraine.

Job Summary

The Intern will have a clear understanding and commitment to humanitarian principles, s/he will be skilled in English and s/he will be able to interpret and articulate information in a comprehensible manner and have a keen eye for details.

Further responsibilities include:
(The list of country is not exhaustive: other tasks may be requested to adapt to operational needs.)

  • Closely monitor developments in conflict area on a daily basis. Inform Deputy Monitor Officer, Information Management Officer and Operations team immediately upon the occurrence of an incident or in anticipation of an event.
  • Establish and maintain an active information network, which includes NGOs, the UN, military forces, and other national and international security actors to obtain credible and relevant safety information.
  • Follow up and collect detailed information on all incidents, especially where an NGO is involved or may later be affected.
  • Provide NGOs with timely and credible security information and contextual analysis of the local security situation through: written and verbal alerts, monthly reports

 Reports to: Deputy Monitoring Officer; Head of Mission.

 Mandatory Requirements

  • Ukrainian national.
  • Fluency in English both written and spoken.
  • Graduate level education or equivalent work experience preferably in humanitarian or security sector in insecure/conflict-affected environments.
  • Proven writing and analytical abilities.
  • Demonstrable understanding of humanitarian principles and their application.

 Preferred Characteristics:

(Not mandatory, but advantageous. Please specify in cover letter)

·  Experience with NGO security and/or project management.

·  Degree in Political Sciences, Journalism, Communication, History, or other relevant fields.

·  Employment history that reflects experience in both security and civilian fields.

·  Demonstrated advanced knowledge of the historical and current social, political, and security contexts within the region.

·  Detailed understanding of INSO mandate and services.

·  Information management and GIS skills.
