Monday, June 16 from 5:00 – 6:00 PM Book Club: “Me Talk Pretty One Day” by David Sedaris
Facilitator:Eve Smith, Senior English Language Fellow, U.S. Department of State

Dear Friends, in June 2014, we will be glad to see you at the sixth and seventh Book Club Sessions.
Please join us for the book club meeting!
David Sedaris’s new collection, Me Talk Pretty One Day, tells a most unconventional life story. It begins with a North Carolina childhood filled with speech-therapy classes (“There was the lisp, of course, but more troubling than that was my voice itself with its excitable tone and high, girlish pitch”) and unwanted guitar lessons taught by a midget. From budding performance artist (“The only crimp in my plan was that I seemed to have no talent whatsoever”) to “clearly unqualified” writing teacher in Chicago, Sedaris’s career leads him to New York (the sky’s-the-limit field of furniture moving) and eventually, of all places, France.

You can borrow a copy of the book of the month for up to two weeks. While reading, it is helpful to take notes on a separate sheet of paper about scenes or ideas that you liked, page numbers of sentences or vocabulary you have questions about, and anything you would like to discuss. We hope to see at the meeting.
Note!!! Due to the limited number of books please inquire in advance about the availability of books in the center or reserve the book beforehand.

Monday, June 23 from 4:00 – 5:30 PM Book Club: “The End of Your Life Book Club” byWill Schwalbe
Facilitator:Eve Smith, Senior English Language Fellow, U.S. Department of State
Join us for the book club meeting!
During her treatment for cancer, Mary Anne Schwalbe and her son Will spent many hours sitting in waiting rooms together. To pass the time, they would talk about the books they were reading. Once, by chance, they read the same book at the same time—and an informal book club of two was born. Through their wide-ranging reading, Will and Mary Anne—and we, their fellow readers—are reminded how books can be comforting, astonishing, and illuminating, changing the way that we feel about and interact with the world around us. A profoundly moving memoir of caregiving, mourning, and love—The End of Your Life Book Club is also about the joy of reading, and the ways that joy is multiplied when we share it with others.

Friday, June 27 from 4:30 – 6:00 PM Youth Discussion Club – Development for Success: «Find Your Best Position in 12 steps»”
Presenter: Ihor Reznik, Coordinator of International Projects / International Charitable Foundation «INSHE ZHITTIA» (granted project of UNODC, that provides drug abuse prevention and promotion of healthy lifestyle and well-being)
There is nothing more consistent with unhappiness than spending your time in a way that doesn’t serve who you are. And to the contrary, there is no more profound source of fulfillment and happiness than knowing you are traveling your own path and making the dent in the world you know you’re capable of.
Event is dedicated to the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (June 26) which is established by the United Nations in 1987 to raise awareness about the global drug problem.

The course “Development for Success” offers some answers based on the latest research from social and individual psychologies, providing you with techniques of overcoming of challenges facing the people today. Also, you will learn how to be a strong positive force in your society and how to pass on your knowledge and experience to others so that everyone will prosper.
About the Course
Interactive discussion clubs with course moderators will stimulate students to look within themselves to perceive changes occurring in their lives. Through studying, readings, and assignments, course participants will be asked to think critically about the decision making, finding own calling, persuasion, self-confidence, responsibility, personal attraction, factors that promote health and well-being and to reflect on overcoming the challenges of achieving success. You will learn and apply new techniques to make innovative contributions in your own world and solve complex problems.
In the spirit of co-creation, we will be open to new perspectives about these topics and will incorporate them as the course evolves. From week to week, we will discuss insights into the learning process from participant submissions and feedback, and we will integrate these insights into the course.
Our focus will be on entertaining, and intriguing research findings that are easy to apply in daily life. As part of this focus, several homework assignments will encourage you to experiment with your life, observe the results, and analyze what took place. Also the course will be drawn on the web site of International Charitable Foundation «Inshe Zhittia»  and social page on Facebook .

The Course «Development for Success» empowers participants to evolve their creative human potential to improve, enhance, and transform their personal lives.
We hope you’ll join us, have fun, and find some useful information that enriches your life.
