Description: 

The American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI) is a non-profit program, under the ABA’s Fund for Justice and Education, that implements legal reform programs in more than 50 countries around the world.  In October 2019, ABA ROLI launched the project: “Promoting Internet Freedom in Ukraine.” This 36-month project aims to empower cross-sector Internet Freedom (IF) champions to advocate for laws and policies that promote IF and online freedom of expression (FoE). Under the current program, ABA ROLI will collaborate with local civil society organizations (CSOs), international and local experts, businesses, Members of Parliament, and governmental agencies to achieve the following goals:

• Build expertise among stakeholders on issues of Internet freedom and national security;
• Improve legal knowledge to ensure new laws under development respect human rights principles;
• Enhance the capacity of Ukrainian CSOs, supporting their activities to promote Internet freedom;
• Enhance cross-sector engagement between CSOs, the private sector, and Government stakeholders.

With a mission of promoting justice, economic opportunity, and human dignity through the rule of law, ABA ROLI has unique needs under its Ukraine Internet Freedom program to support local organizations through subawards to promote IF and online FoE.  

Through this request for applications (RFA), ABA ROLI will support up to six (6) local organizations with subawards ranging from $20,000 to $50,000 apiece The program activities of subgrantees should lay within the framework of the overall ABA ROLI Internet Freedom program in Ukraine and shall be focused on one or more of the topics listed in section 1.4 of the RFA attachment.

The attached subaward application, RFA Appendix A, and other supporting documentation as required by the subaward application must be submitted to [email protected] in full by the application deadline to be considered for funding.
