ABOUT US 

DRC-DDG is an international non-governmental organization, which promotes and supports durable solutions to the problems faced by refugees and internally displaced people all over the world. From the Slovyansk Sub-Office, DRC-DDG carries out a variety of activities to support conflict affected and internally displaced people in Donetsk oblast and Luhansk oblast including restoration of shelter, livelihoods and business grants, legal assistance, child protection and psycho-social support and humanitarian mine action. 

The Protection Program of DRC is currently focusing on community-based protection, child protection and psycho-social counselling, and is seeking to recruit qualified staff to support integrated Protection and Livelihoods interventions. 

 ABOUT THE JOB 

The Protection Specialist is part of the DRC Protection Team in Slovyansk and works under the management, guidance and supervision of DRC’s national Protection Team Leader and international Protection Coordinator. The Protection Specialist supports the national Protection Team Leader and international Protection Coordinator in timely and quality implementation of protection activities in northern Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts. This position is based in Slovyansk with frequent travel to field locations.  

The Protection Specialist, in coordination and cooperation with the programme staff, is expected to pursue the following objectives in his/her daily work: 

Implementation of protection activities 

  • Contribute to the design of clear weekly and monthly plans for the implementation of all protection activities; 
  • Support the organization and delivery of psychosocial sessions to Employment Centres in close coordination with DRC Livelihoods team; 
  • Support the organization and delivery of group-based psychosocial support activities for men, women, adolescents and children (including parents and teachers) and community-based initiatives (CBIs); 
  • Contribute to the process of developing tools, guidelines and SOPs relevant for protection work; 
  • Manage individual cases, provide advice and guidance as well as referrals to IDPs on issues related to accessing required services; 
  • Under the guidance of Protection Team Leader, provide capacity building and support to local partner organisation in the implementation of psychosocial and life-skills activities with the youth; 
  • Contribute to the monitoring of DRC local partner and closely follow-up with the partners on the programme implementation and programme quality. 

Training and capacity building 

  • Support Protection  Team Leader in activities related to the implementation of training activities with a strong focus on psychosocial support, including documentation, procurement and logistical arrangements; 
  • Contribute to the development of training materials and tools; 
  • Assist in training/capacity building of government officials with protection related functions, as well as local and international NGOs; 
  • Assist in training for government and NGO stakeholders, social workers, psychologists in psychosocial support methodology; 
  • Design information leaflets, brochures, training modules for awareness raising activities. 

 Internal/External Coordination and Representation 

  • Establish and maintain coordination with local authorities, local and international NGOs when/if required; 
  • Represent projects in relevant coordination meetings when requested; 
  • Support with occasional document translation and provide interpretation support to Protection Coordinator during meetings, trainings, and other project activities. 

 Reporting & Accountability 

  • Collect and maintain project data ensuring the highest standards of data protection and confidentiality. Insert the collected information into the database when needed; 
  • Contribute to drafting reports, analyses of statistical data and proposal writing; 
  • Produce high quality and timely reports for DRC and donors within agreed deadlines; 
  • Comply with all relevant DRC policies and procedures, particularly with respect to child protection, the code of conduct, and security;

 Required Qualifications and Skills 

  • Graduate degree in psychology, social work, education or equivalent; 
  • At least 2 years of working experience in psychosocial support programmes or social work, supporting vulnerable groups of populations  as part of local or international organizations;  
  • Strong facilitation skills and experience designing and delivering trainings to various audience, preferably with a focus on psychosocial support; 
  • Good writing and analytical skills; 
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills; 
  • Positive ‘can-do’ attitude and resilience; 
  • Proficient in Ukrainian/Russian and good command of English - both oral and written.  

 WE OFFER

Contract length: 6 months with possible extension 

Level: C

Start date: as soon as possible  (23 October, 2017)
