About the organization
The German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF) strengthens transatlantic cooperation on
regional, national, and global challenges and opportunities in the spirit of the Marshall Plan.
Founded in 1972 as a non-partisan, non-profit organization, GMF maintains a strong presence on
both sides of the Atlantic. In addition to its headquarters in Washington, DC, GMF has offices in
Berlin, Paris, Brussels, Belgrade, Ankara, Bucharest, and Warsaw.
The Bucharest office serves as the headquarters for the Black Sea Trust for Regional Cooperation
(BST). The broad goals of the Black Sea Trust include building trust among citizens in their public
institutions and strengthening this critical set of institutions; affirming the value of citizen
participation in the democratic process; promoting the involvement of civil society in conflict
resolution and fostering regional, cross-border ties in the public, private, and non-profit sectors.
The countries included in the Black Sea Trust’s portfolio are Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria,
Georgia, Moldova, Romania, Turkey, and Ukraine.

About the project
COVID-19: Civil Society Resilience and Sustainability is a regional action run by IREX/ERIM
Europe and funded by the European Union. The project aims to support Civil Society,
independent activists, and independent media to continue their work throughout and after the
COVID-19 pandemic. Black Sea Trust for Regional Cooperation (BST) is responsible for the
implementation of the action in Ukraine.
About the role
The Junior Communication Consultant will support the BST team working with Ukrainian
grantees to make their work more visible to a national and international audience.
Type of work: Remote
Working time: 15 hours/week, flexible working hours
Contract duration: one year, with the possibility of extension.
Expected start date: November 1, 2021

Key areas of responsibilities
• Responsible for written translations from English to Ukrainian and Ukrainian to English,
maintaining the concepts, tone, cultural references, and nuances of the original source
text.
• Proofread translations and ensuring that they are free from errors.
• Collect communication information and materials from the platforms used by the
grantees to promote their projects – website, social media channels etc., and compile them
in Grantee communication reports.
• Draft success stories in English and translate them into Ukrainian, in collaboration with
the Project Assistant.
• Participate in the Communication meetings organized by the project team;
• Supports the Program Officer and Program Assistant in organizing communication
events.
• Support the Program Officer in communicating with the grantees on topics related to
communication/visibility of their projects.
• Gets involved in drafting the Communication strategy for Ukraine-related projects
funded by BST.
Qualifications and requirements
The ideal candidate should possess the following minimum requirements:
• Ukrainian citizen.
• Very good understanding of social media and other communication platforms, as well as
of storytelling concepts.
• Good understanding of the work of Civil Society Organizations in Ukraine;
• Ideally (but not eliminatory) 1-2 years’ work or volunteering experience as
Communication Assistant and/or translator.
• Flexibility to multitask, have an eye for detail, ability to perform under tight deadlines,
and work independently.
• Ability to use common computer software applications.
• Excellent command of Ukrainian and English languages.
