Starting date: February 1st, 2021

Duration: 11 months with the possibility of extension

Background:

People in Need (PIN) is a Czech international non-governmental organization, that is present in more than 20 countries has been active in Ukraine since 2014, and the humanitarian programs have been rapidly expanding since then. Currently, PIN is one of the major humanitarian actors in Eastern Ukraine while providing neutral, impartial and independent humanitarian aid to conflict-affected people.

General information about the role of the person

The Protection and Community Engagement Technical Lead will support the good realization of principles and technical requirements of Protection (with a primary focus on Protection Mainstreaming, and applying Age, Gender-, Diversity sensitive lens), Community Engagement (through Community-Based Approach), and ensure overall Quality management in light of Humanitarian Standards and Protection Principles in humanitarian response and programming in general. By doing so, the Technical Lead also has a special role to play in advising PIN Ukraine’s Advocacy efforts on relevant matters.

Description of general responsibilities:

  • Technical support to PIN all-sector programming on matters of protection standalone, protection mainstreaming and community-based approaches,  through guidance on project design, implementation and Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning;
  • Contribution to the development and implementation of PIN’s strategy, in particular in key domains such as relevance and opportunities for standalone Protection programming, matters of humanitarian access in NGCA, and overall Quality management of humanitarian response;
  • Capacity building and mentoring of teams and partners on various aspects of Protection standalone, Protection Mainstreaming, Do-No-Harm, Community-based approach and Humanitarian Principles in general.

Required background and competences:

  • Educational background in relevant field, such as human rights, peace and conflict studies, social sciences etc (master’s…);
  • Good technical understanding of Protection and Community engagement in humanitarian context;trainings in relevant topics;
  • Minimum 4 years’ of Protection work experience in humanitarian response in armed conflict and/or crisis context;
  • Significant experience in an (international) non-governmental organization and/or international organization including field experience;;
  • Proven expertise and experience in a diversified range of Protection-related interventions; experience in community-based protection is required;
  • Proven expertise and experience in Protection Mainstreaming in at least 2 humanitarian sectors (WASH, Food Security and Livelihoods, Shelter, …)
  • Proven experience required in at least 4 of the following : Context analysis and needs assessments (with Age, Gender and Diversity); Do-No-Harm and conflict-sensitive approach; Vulnerability analysis; Community-based approach; Facilitation; Referrals;
  • Proven experience required in providing technical guidance through at least 2 of the following methods: Developing methodologies, tools, SOPs etc; Developing and running trainings and other capacity building plans; On-the-job trainings and coaching of staff; Networking, coordinating and strategic information sharing.
  • Knowledge of project cycle management;
  • Strong organizational, critical analysis and problem-solving skills;
  • Fluency in spoken and written English and Russian and/or Ukrainian and excellent writing skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Good capacity building skills.

PIN OFFERS:

  • Salary as per PIN salary scale depending on the experience: 1387- 1849 USD GROSS (1456-1941 USD GROSS after 4-months’ probation period)
