Organizational Setting

FAO Ukraine is a project management Office headed by the Regional Programme Leader (RPL) under the operational responsibility of the Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia. The Office provides support to Ukraine in promoting restoration of degraded landscapes in the forest-steppe and steppe zones of Ukraine through upscaling of integrated natural resources management (INRM) practices.

Rporting Lines

Under the overall supervision of FAO Regional Programme Leader for Europe and Central Asia and Project’s Leading Technical Officer, the direct supervision of the Programme Coordinator in Ukraine and the technical supervision of the GEF Project Coordinator, the Field Officer will work in the close coordination with relevant partners, experts and the rest of the FAO team within the framework of project GCP/UKR/004/GEF. The Field Officer will responsible to perform the following tasks

Tasks and responsibilities

  • The Field Officer provides and channel guidance to local governments and to local communities at demonstration sites
  • Liaise regularly with the local governments, local communities in Kyiv, and nearest oblasts and with other project coordination units
  • Support in the arrangement of training on conservation agriculture (CA), agroforestry, and integrated pest management in accordance with FAO procedures
  • Support in launching public events toward the awareness-raising on project activities
  • Cooperate with the relevant project experts and field officers in terms of:
  1. identifying farmers’ capacity and analyse their production systems in Kyiv oblast;
  2. developing the project networking through the involving agriculture producers and relative service providers into the cooperation;
  3. collecting the best case of CA practices and shelterbelt establishing and maintain;
  4. assist with curriculum developing for the Field Farmer Schools;
  5. involving in the organization of all Field Farmers Schools training;
  6. preparing text and visual content for public awareness
  • Oversee the preparation of participatory land-use plans and their implementation in the Kyiv oblast
  • Regular monitoring of the field activity conducting under the project in the Kyiv oblast with further reporting
  • Lead field-based M&E, together with local communities, of project environmental and socio-economic impacts
  • Provide regular feedback and warning on conflicts and assist with conflict resolution
  • Provide regular support performing the COVID 19 Exit Survey
  • Perform other duties as requested

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

  • At least Master degree in the fields of technical and/or environmental and/or agriculture science
  • A profound understanding of Field Farms School methodology under the FAO approach
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience within one or more of the following areas: natural resource management, agriculture, agroforestry, environmental sciences
  • Excellent communication skills and ability work with the team, analytical abilities and ability to synthesize outcomes
  • Excellent command of written and spoken knowledge of Ukrainian and/or Russian.
  • Advanced level of English would be appreciated
