Every year, 700 students from about 80 nationalities participate as scholarship holders in the European Forum Alpbach. Join smart minds from around the world in a charming Alpine village, immersing yourself in an environment bursting with novel ideas, new ways of thinking and opportunities for making great contacts.

General topic of the EFA - 2018 is Diversity and Resilience. 

Our age is defined by rapid transformations. The way we live, think and work is subject to constant change, giving rise to a multitude of new challenges. Now, more than ever, we need to act purposefully, consider diverse courses of action and come up with cutting-edge solutions.

That said, in many areas diversity is recognized and encouraged as an opportunity for the challenges ahead. It has a positive impact on the strength, robustness and innovative power on the resilience of our society, environment, economy and culture. At the same time, however, diversity can become a strain and lead to the collapse of entire systems. How can we handle crises? Are our systems – from finance to health – suited to master the challenges to come? How can we ensure lasting peace, prosperity and democracy? Is resilience the key to success?

We invite you to examine the relationship between “Diversity and Resilience” together with a host of experts from the worlds of business, politics, culture and civil society. Immerse yourself in an international setting full of new ideas, mindsets and contacts. Let us join forces to answer the great questions of today!

With the Alpbach scholarship programme, young people under 30 can attend this leading interdisciplinary conference and a variety of academic seminars. A basic scholarship covers the participation fee to all events at the European Forum Alpbach. Additional subsidies are available for accommodation and daily allowances.

Eligibility: The scholarships are available to people up to 30 years of age. We welcome applications from all countries (except Austria) and academic disciplines. We also encourage artists and non-graduates to apply. 

The online application starts on February 21 and ends on March 30, 2018 at 11:59 hrs (noon CET).

A complete application requires a filled in online application form as well as a motivational statement, a curriculum vitae, certificates and transcripts and proof of English proficiency. You will need to upload the following documents with your application: copies of your highest and latest obtained school or university certificates, as well as a transcript covering all credits obtained during the last (academic) year, or alternatively a confirmation of your last obtained school or work experience. If your transcripts/certificates are in a language other than German or English, please submit a translation. This translation does not need to be certified.
