Duties and Responsibilities

Under the overall guidance of the Social Sector Reform Officer of the UN Joint Programme “Mainstreaming Policies and Services for People with Disabilities in Ukraine” (Phase 2), the Intern assists in public awareness efforts to promote universal design principles among target audiences, provides support in communication with media and stakeholders, distribution of materials, etc.

The intern provides effective support to the Programme ensuring high quality of work, accuracy and timely service delivery and focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • collection, procession and interpretation of data and information necessary for the Programme;
  • prepares drafts of publications, documents, reports, press-releases, presentations, briefings, including but not limited to drafting/editing short stories and news updates for the website www.ud.org.ua and other web resources, as well as posts in social media supporting Programme’s activities;
  • provides support in communication with stakeholders and media including drafting letters, distribution of information and materials among key stakeholders and media, keeping and regular updating the database of project’s stakeholders and the media base;
  • assists in organizing events;
  • translates documents from/into English/Ukrainian/Russian;
  • performs other duties requested by the supervisor.

The key functions, as described above, are executed on time and in high quality.

Competencies

Corporate Competencies:

  • Demonstrates keen interest in the work of the UN, and of UNDP in particular;
  • Displays cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality and age sensitivity and adaptability.

Functional Competencies:

  • Capacity to collect, process and analyse complex data and information;
  • Ability to effectively communicate with the partners and Media upon the pre-agreed script and under the supervision;
  • Capacity to draft informational materials for the further review by the Supervisors;
  • Ability to handle a large volume of work possibly under time constraints;
  • Understanding of the official development assistance specifics;
  • Understanding of UN/UNDP mandates and specifics of activities;
  • Understanding of Universal Design principles will be a strong advantage;
  • Consistently approaches work with energy and a positive, constructive attitude, pro-activity;
  • Remains calm, in control and good humour even under pressure;
  • Diplomatic skills.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Enrolled student in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) in International Relations, Journalism, Public Relations, Philology, Social Studies, Foreign Language Studies or other related field; or
  • Enrolled student in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) in International Relations, Journalism, Public Relations, Philology, Social Studies, Foreign Language Studies or other related field; or
  • Graduate student within one-year of graduation of any of the above.

Experience:

Computer literate in standard office software applications (Microsoft Word, PPT, Excel and other related text/visuals software), Social Media, basic experience in preparing informative materials, publications, reports. Understanding of Universal Design principles and competent photography skills will be a strong advantage.

Language Requirements:

Fluency in Ukrainian, Russian and English.

  • Copy of the most recent CV in English;
  • Letter of motivation;
  • Letter from his/her University confirming current enrollment and graduation date, if applicable, or copy of a Diploma for graduate students;
  • Copy of a school transcript;
  • Endorsement letter or letter of reference from a faculty member;
  • Other documents might be required.
