SCI Catalunya is looking for 2 motivated volunteers!

Where? Barcelona

When? September 2018 – September 2019

Service Civil International (SCI) is a global movement which works for culture of peace, global justice and social transformation from a grassroots perspective.

What do we do?

Born in 1982, SCI Catalunya works in different lines:

● International volunteering (workcamps and long term volunteering, such as EVS) for local development.

● Participation through local groups of activists for changing our reality.

● Networking, understood as a way of involvement in movements and associations’ networks, from local to international level.

● Peace education as a tool to promote global justice and empower people to become an agent of social change.

Where are we?

Catalonia is a land with beautiful scenery, rich cultural heritage and open-minded, enterprising people. It has always been hospitable and open to the outside world, thanks to its long tradition of international trade. Catalan culture is then both national and cosmopolitan, generally belonging to the Mediterranean tradition, but different from most other places of the Iberian peninsula in several aspects, starting from its language, Catalan (spoken by around 14 million people) or its traditional folk culture. With over seven million inhabitants and an area of almost 32 thousand km2, Catalonia basks in a privileged, temperate, Mediterranean climate all year round. Moreover, it offers visitors a tremendous range of opportunities to enjoy culture and history, with several architectural and artistic treasures, sites and monuments, and with its unique seaside (like Costa Brava), mountains (like Pyrenees or Montserrat), or cities (like Barcelona or Girona). SCI Catalunya’s office is located in el Raval, an area in the old part of the city of Barcelona, which is really culturally diverse.

The EVS project

To promote peace and social justice, with an international perspective, we are active and dynamic organization: every year we organize 10 local workcamps, where almost 150 volunteers from other countries are placed and hosted, and we send and support around 300 local volunteers to other projects abroad. We also select and prepare volunteers for long term volunteering projects, International Youth Exchanges and for seminars and trainings. We also coordinate various groups of local volunteers to support awareness raising actions in our area.
