DDG is looking for a survey team coordinator to manage the activities of 3 survey teams carrying out survey activities assessing the effects of explosive remnants of war (ERW).

Position Title: Survey Team Coordinator

Reporting to: National Operations Coordinator

Duty Station: Severodonetsk

Employment Period: 6 months

Background

The Danish Refugee Council/Danish Demining Group (DRC/DDG) has operated in Ukraine since June 2007. In January 2013, it closed its office upon completion of programmes for the protection of asylum seekers and refugees, and for the capacity building of government and civil society. DRC returned to Ukraine with assessment missions starting in April 2014, in order to assist those persons who are internally displaced (IDPs). Today, DRC/DDG implements activities in eastern Ukraine with a head office in Kyiv.

DDG Ukraine has recently secured a project for mine action activities in Luhansk and Donetsk oblasts. Part of this project will include conducting a survey of mine and unexploded ordnance contamination in these areas. 

Position’s Description

DDG is looking for a survey team coordinator to manage the activities of 3 survey teams carrying out survey activities assessing the effects of explosive remnants of war (ERW) including unexploded ordnance (UXO) and landmines in the eastern oblasts of Donetsk and Luhansk.

Position’s Specific Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Management of 3 teams of 3 staff including a survey team leader, survey operative and a survey driver.
  • Generate logical survey work plans based on humanitarian requirement and knowledge of local area to maximise survey output on the ground.
  • Quality assurance activities to ensure that standard operating procedures (SOPs) on the conduct of non-technical survey (NTS) are being followed at all times.
  • Collection and coordination of technical survey data regarding mine and ammunition types.
  • Management of a survey database to ensure data is being properly recorded.
  • Translation of survey data to help inform senior management on prioritisation of tasks to develop strategic clearance work plans.
  • Continuously evaluate survey and data collection methods and inform on potential improvements in the system to promote efficiency.

 Competencies:

  • Demonstrate an analytical approach to the gathering of sensitive information and an ability to follow reporting format to the letter.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office programmes and ability to manage a national level information database including accurate entry, extraction and review of critical information.
  • Experience in engineering, geographical survey or military command.
  • Ability to take full responsibility for the welfare of all teams and the equipment under your direction within a high security context.
  • Ability to coordinate activities of several teams along approved work plans and against contractually agreed output targets.

 Desirable

  • Working knowledge of English language.
  • Experience working within Luhansk and Donetsk oblasts.

Skills:

  • Computing skills (word processing, spreadsheet programs, etc.), proficiency in using various kinds of office equipment;
  • Good knowledge of document management standards and regulations;
  • Attention to details, orderliness;
  • Basic knowledge of English language (both speaking and writing);
  • Excellent inter-personal and communication skills
  • Reliable, rigorous and well organized;
  • Commitment to professional development; able and willing to learn and extend scope of work;
  • Ability to organize prioritization and planning;
  • Capacity to manage stress and flexibility for long working hours;
  • Ability to take initiatives and work without constant supervision;
  • Motivated and dedicated to his/her job.

General Regulations:

  • The employee shall follow DRC instructions on safety, confidentiality and ethical guidelines, including the Code of Conduct and the Humanitarian Accountability Framework.
  • Employee should not engage in any other paid activity for any other agency during the DRC contract period without Country Director’s authorization.
  • Employee should not engage in any activity that could harm DRC or the implementation of any project during the DRC contract period.
  • Employee should not give interviews to the media or publish project-related photos or other material without Country Director’s authorization.
  • Employee shall return all borrowed equipment for the project to DRC after the end of the contract period or upon the Country Director’s request.
